Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 16, 2026

1. Overview

Coco ("we," "us," or "our") helps North Carolina families manage school calendars and related information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to our website, applications, and related services (the "Service").

2. Information we collect

Account and profile. When you use Coco, we may collect your name, email address, session identifiers, and authentication details from sign-in providers (such as Google or Apple).

Children and family data. You may provide information about your children, including names, schools, grades, and related preferences. This data is supplied by you as the parent or guardian.

Calendar and connections. If you connect Google Calendar, we store connection metadata and encrypted OAuth tokens. Coco creates a separate calendar for each of your children and manages only the events on the calendars it creates. We cannot see, change, or delete anything on your own calendar or on any other calendar in your account.

Communications. If you enable email or browser push notifications, we process the contact details, device push subscription, preferences, and message content needed to deliver them. You can turn browser notifications off in Coco or in your device settings.

Usage and technical data. We collect standard log and device information (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) to operate, secure, and improve the Service.

3. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and personalize the Service, including onboarding and calendar sync;
  • Generate school calendars, reminders, digests, and notifications you request;
  • Maintain account security and prevent fraud or abuse;
  • Improve features, fix bugs, and understand how the Service is used;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use calendar data to serve third-party advertising.

4. Google and third-party services

Coco's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We access Google data only to provide features you enable, including writing school events onto the calendars Coco creates for your children, and do not use that data for unrelated purposes.

Third-party services you connect are governed by their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review those policies before connecting an account.

5. How we share information

We may share information with:

  • Service providers who help us host, secure, email, or operate the Service (under contractual confidentiality obligations);
  • Other users you invite, such as a co-parent, only when you explicitly choose to share a digest or view;
  • Authorities when required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

6. Data retention

We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you disconnect a calendar or delete your account, we delete or anonymize associated data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, security, or backup purposes.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption for sensitive tokens and access controls on our infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's privacy

Coco is designed for use by parents and guardians, not by children directly. Information about children is provided by the adult account holder. If you believe we have collected information from a child without appropriate consent, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

9. Your choices and rights

You may:

  • Update profile or child information through the Service;
  • Disconnect Google Calendar or other integrations at any time;
  • Request access to or deletion of your data by contacting us;
  • Opt out of non-essential communications where applicable.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under applicable law. We will honor valid requests in accordance with those laws.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by other reasonable means. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
